The Coaching Association runs a free coach education programme with practical sessions run by top coaches throughout the season.

Review of the 2019 Six Nations Championship

John Fletcher will use his vast experience and coaching contacts within our game to give an expert review of this year’s Six Nations Championship. He will use footage and statistics to look at the practical implications for players & coaches from what was on show and if we are lucky, John will share his feelings for the 2019 Rugby World Cup.

This session is a must for all Rugby Coaches, Directors of Rugby, Heads of Youth Rugby at schools & club.

John Fletcher was previously Head of Academy, then director of rugby at Newcastle Falcons before taking on the England Under 18 Head coach position in 2008. John was responsible, with his assistant Peter Walton, for producing an array of talent including, amongst others:

Youth Coaching & Game Dynamics:

This session will be led by L4 Coach, Gareth Hatherley-Hurford. Gareth is the London Scottish 1st team skills coach. It is primarily a practical session with some indoor delivery, the focus being on you observing, asking questions and having a role in developing some games and WHY we use them.

Themes for the session:
Developing a Skills based Scheme of work using games and context based practise
Exploring managing contact and continuity
How to develop your own ability to create games and specific technical aspects relevant to Youth Rugby Coaching

Academy Magic:
Wednesday 31st October 2018

England U18s coach John Fletcher will be delivering a course on the practical coaching of tactical awareness on Wednesday 31st October at London Welsh.

This FREE session is a must for all rugby coaches, DoRs and club and school heads of youth rugby.

John will look at the practical coaching of tactical awareness “beat the game” using
adaptive games. In the clubhouse John will explore the Magic Academy coach
sharing platform with challenge cards and the “craft of coaching”.

John worked as Head of Academy and then Director of Rugby at Newcastle
Falcons before taking on the England Under 18 Head coach position in
2008. England have reaped the benefits of a productive U18 to U20 to senior
pathway in recent years with John being responsible, with his assistant Peter
Walton, for producing an array of talent including amongst others:
